English Today Courses

English Today’s iBT TOEFL Listening Course prepares students for success in the TOEFL test. The student will hear a variety of conversations and lectures, each of which lasts from 3 to 6 minutes. A total of six listening passages will be presented in the listening part of the test. After each passage, you will then be asked to answer six questions about what you heard. Resembling the reading section of the iBT TOEFL test, the questions are designed to assess your understanding of the main idea, facture information, and inferences.

STUDY TIPS FOR LISTENING

Practice listening to North American, British, and Australian English as much as possible. To prepare for the TOEFL test, educational programs, documentaries, and news programs are excellent sources.

One lecture per test is spoken with a British or Australian accent, so practice listening to programs or news sources from the UK and Australia, as well as reports from the US and Canada. Ask English Today’s Head TOEFL teacher Mr. Matthew for listening material as he has plenty along with the transcripts to later check your weak-points.

Pay attention to how pauses and intonation are used to organize the passage, emphasize important information, and show transition.

Develop your note taking skills. While you are listening to information, try to write down key words in a organized, graphic way that makes sense to you.
